6 Reasons To Consider Doing A First Look // Wedding Tips
First let’s talk really quick on what a first look is, because quite a few people just don’t know!
First Looks are what couples do before their ceremony to see each other for the first time! This moment is for just the two of you (and us) so you can experience and espress all of the real raw emotions when you see each other for the first time on your wedding day!
Normally, most couples think of walking down the aisle as the BIGGEST and most emotional moment on their wedding day. And while that is true for a few people, most bride and grooms don’t allow themselves to show their full emotions in front of hundreds of family and friends (guilty as charged!)! So here is our list of 6 reasons why you should seriously consider doing a first look on your wedding day!
6 Reasons why you should consider doing a first look
1. It Adds to the Experience
Doing a First look adds so much more to the emotional experience you will have on your wedding day, it gives you a moment to soak each other in and to take in your day! All of your hard work over months and months has come together and you can really soak it all in by taking moments alone together like this!
2. Reduces Stress & allows you both to express your true emotions
A lot of couples who do not do a first look have a lot of stress during cocktail hour because you are trying to squeeze your photos from signing the marriage license, your couples portraits, the family formals and bridal party pictures all within an HOUR. Couples who do a first look get on average 50% MORE portraits when doing a first look compared to not doing one!
3. It’s possibly the closest thing to alone time you will get during your wedding day
You would think there would be some time through the day when you two can have some moments alone during the day right? WRONG! Almost every wedding we’ve been at, the couple has ZERO time alone together from the ceremony to the end of the reception! The First look is un-interrupted time for the two of you before everything else begins.
4. You get an immediate reaction to seeing each other
There is nothing quite like seeing your husband or wife to be for the first time on their wedding day, and when it’s just the two of you, all of your true emotions can come out. The laughter, the tears, the cuddles and sweet talk in each others ears, some of this you can’t really do in the middle of your ceremony.
5. When you walk down that aisle it’s no longer daunting but exciting!
When you see each other before the ceremony you can feel less anxious thinking about his reaction when he sees you because you’ve already had that moment before hand!
6. You get all or almost all formal photos done before the ceremony
When you do a first look, usually we can get ALL of the formal photos done before your ceremony! This means you can go straight to the cocktail hour after your ceremony (ok we might snag a few minutes for some official “husband and wife” portraits still depending on how much time we has to do your portraits before the First Look)! We will do your First look and your portraits, then we will do your bridal party and family all before the ceremony! Just be sure to assign a designated meeting space and a runner on each side of the family to round up everyone for formals so mom and dad or your siblings aren’t running around trying to wrangle people!
